THE STEM Academy at HVA
What's STEM?
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.  If you love math and science, are interested in learning how the world works and is put together, and/or can't get enough of computers and the latest techy gadgets, you  belong in the STEM Academy.  STEM students are smart, motivated, and don't mind asking questions or thinking outside the box.  If you want to learn how to use math, science, logic, computers and technology to make the world a better place to live, you will gain the knowledge and skills through STEM courses.

US Coast Guard Academy (for HS Juniors)
AIM Summer Program
It is important that you make an informed decision about applying to and attending the Coast Guard Academy. Our Academy Introduction Mission (AIM) is a one-week summer program that gives you the chance to see if the Academy is right for you, and if you have what it takes to succeed. If you are selected, you will experience the rigor, discipline, and rewards of the Academy, just like a cadet, for a week in July following your junior year in high school.

You will meet faculty and staff; learn about our academic, military, and athletic programs; talk with cadets who have sailed on Eagle, flown aircraft, and started their leadership journey; and meet with Coast Guard professionals who are protecting our nation right now. Success at AIM is a good indicator of success at the Coast Guard Academy. Typically 50% of students appointed to the Academy attended AIM.

The AIM 2013 application is now open. Before applying, please review the eligibility requirements to ensure you can apply for the AIM program this year.

For more information, see http://www.uscga.edu/AIM/
Women in Engineering Summer Camp
The University of Dayton offers a summer camp for women who plan to enter the field of Engineering.   It is a week-long camp from July 7th to July 12th that allows students to experience hands-on activities related to chemical, civil, computer, electrical and mechanical engineering.   If you are interested, see Ms. Miser in the Counseling Office.   Or visit the website for more information.

Summer Math Opportunity at Bryn Mawr College
MathILy is an intensive residential summer program for mathematically excellent secondary students.  Check out: http://www.mathily.org

Do you want to explore and create mathematics? Then read on, for that's what MathILy is all about! In MathILy classes, instructors provide the framework and you get to make (and prove!) the conjectures. You will encounter new ideas, improve your problem-solving skills, learn lots and lots of advanced mathematics, and hone your overall thinking skills. You'll meet others like you. (Yes, really. We promise.) Most of all, you will find serious mathematics infused with levity. MathILy is five weeks of maximized mathematical marvelousness.

Even if you're a master of mathematics, there is more to learn. And if you're not a master, we'll help you become one.
Just want to have fun with math many hours each day? We can handle that with you, too.

MathILy is designed for students with an insatiable curiosity about mathematics, and who are creative and enthusiastic in their approaches to learning. We expect that participants will come from all over the United States and, perhaps, the world.

Many summer mathematics experiences are organized on the principle that simply combining smart people with mathematics will result in learning and fun. This is a true principle---but why not do better? MathILy promises a focused and individually tailored effort that elicits massive learning, enormous fun, and significant personal growth.

Summer too packed? Check out our alter ego sister program, MathIGy.
